Privacy Policy

The operator (“we”) establishes this Privacy Policy (“Policy”) regarding the handling of user information, including personal information, in the app “memorian’s journal” (“the App”).

1. Information We Handle and How

The App does not collect your information on our servers. The information the App handles, by how it is obtained, is as follows.

(1) Information stored only on your device (we do not obtain it)

This information is stored only in a database on your device or in the App’s own storage area and, except for the voice input described in (2) and your own actions described in (5), is never transmitted to us or to any external server.

Images are handled only when you use the image attachment feature. For this feature, the App asks for access to your device’s camera and photo library. If you decline, every feature other than image attachment remains available. Images you capture or select are copied into the App’s own storage area and, except for your own actions described in (5), are never transmitted to us or to any external server.

When you choose the App from another app’s sharing feature, the App receives the text, link (URL), or image handed to it and saves it as a memo when you choose to save. Until it is imported as a memo, the received content is kept in a temporary storage area on your device that only the App and its share extension can access, and it is deleted once imported. This feature does not require access to your camera or photo library. It is currently available on iOS only.

(2) Information sent to OS speech recognition during voice input

When you use the voice memo feature, audio from the microphone is converted to text by your device’s speech recognition. On iOS this is provided by Apple, and on Android by the device’s recognition service (typically Google); audio may be sent to them. The recorded audio is not stored by the App; only the resulting text is saved on your device.

(3) Information obtained through the contact form

When you use the contact form, we obtain the inquiry category, your message, and any attachments. We do not ask you to enter your email address in the form. The form uses Google Forms, and responses are stored in our Google account. If you voluntarily include contact details (such as an email address) in your message, we use them solely to respond to that inquiry.

(4) Statistics provided by app stores

The App Store and Google Play provide us with aggregated, anonymized statistics (e.g., downloads, crashes, general usage). These are collected by the stores (Apple/Google) at the OS/store level, not through any SDK embedded in the App, and do not identify you.

(5) Information handed to another app or website by your own action

When you use the sharing feature on an attached image or on a link in a memo, the image or link is handed to the app or service you choose through the sharing feature provided by your device’s OS. You choose the destination each time; we neither determine it nor obtain the image or link you share. Once handed over, it is handled under the terms of the app or service you selected, and if you choose an app that transmits data, the image or link may be sent to that provider’s servers.

When you copy a link in a memo, the link is placed on your device’s clipboard, where other apps on your device can read it.

When you open a link in a memo, it opens in your device’s browser or a similar app and connects to the linked website. Information that comes with any such connection, such as your IP address, may be sent to the operator of that website and is handled under that operator’s terms; we do not obtain it. The App never automatically fetches information such as the title or images of a linked page.

The App currently contains no advertising, behavioral analytics, or tracking SDKs. It also does not collect IP addresses, cookies, ADID/IDFA or similar identifiers, or location. Even where an attached image contains embedded metadata such as capture time or location (Exif), the image is stored only on your device and we never obtain or collect it. If this changes, we will update this Policy and the relevant store disclosures before any such data is collected.

2. Purposes of Use

We use the information we obtain for the following purposes:

  1. To provide, maintain, protect, and improve the App;
  2. To respond to inquiries about the App;
  3. To address conduct that violates our Terms, this Policy, or similar rules;
  4. To notify you of changes to this Policy and similar documents.

3. Use of External Services

The App uses the following external services. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies.

4. Provision to Third Parties

We do not provide personal information to third parties without your prior consent, except:

  1. as required by law;
  2. where necessary to protect a person’s life, body, or property; or
  3. as otherwise permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other laws.

The use of external services in Section 3, and the sharing, copying, and opening of links described in Section 1(5), occur based on your own actions (voice input, contacting us, sharing, copying, or opening a link).

5. Security Measures

We take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent leakage, loss, or damage of user information and to otherwise manage it safely. The security of information stored on your device also depends on your device’s security settings. Information obtained through the contact form is managed in our access-restricted Google account.

6. Requests for Disclosure, etc.

If you, as the individual, request notification of purpose of use, disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, erasure, or suspension of third-party provision of your retained personal data under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, we will, after confirming your identity, respond without delay in accordance with the law. Please make such requests via the contact form. For a request to be notified of the purpose of use or for disclosure, we may charge a fee of 1,000 yen (tax included) per request, plus any actual costs (such as postage).

Note that memos and attached images are stored only on your device; you can delete them at any time in the App (deleting a memo also deletes the App’s copy of the images attached to it; any original in your photo library is left untouched), and uninstalling the App erases them all.

Minors may use the App with the consent of a parent or guardian. If a minor submits personal information (such as contact details they choose to include) through the contact form, they should obtain a parent’s or guardian’s consent in advance. If we learn that we have obtained personal information from a minor without such consent, we will promptly delete it within a reasonable scope.

9. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Policy as necessary. For material changes, we will announce the updated content and effective date within the App or by an appropriate method such as our website.

10. Governing Language

This Policy is made in Japanese as the authoritative text. In case of any discrepancy between this English translation and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
